The 2018 SWS Virtual Expo, presented by Storm Water Solutions and StormwaterONE, has announced the keynote speakers for the free, online event held April 18, 2018, from the comfort of your own home or office. The opening keynote will examine BMPs for sediment and turbidity management, and the afternoon keynote will discuss Houston’s urban storm sewer system during Hurricane Harvey. Both presentations will conclude with a Q&A and feature the opportunity to earn one professional development hour credit.

Tanya Bilezikjan, P.E., and Dave Mercier, P.E., project managers for Michael Baker Intl., will kick off the day at noon E.T., with the opening keynote, A Way Forward: Turbidity, Construction Storm Water and Passive Treatment. The California Construction General Permit uses turbidity as a water quality indicator when evaluating the effectiveness of erosion and sediment control BMPs on construction sites. This webinar will examine a large warehouse project in California to discuss available BMPs from the viewpoint of managing sediment and turbidity, and asses which BMPs will be useful when achieving compliance with turbidity action levels.

At 3:00 p.m. E.T., Andres Salazar, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, managing director of Walter P. Moore, will lead the afternoon keynote with his presentation Understanding the Performance of Houston’s Urban Storm Sewer System During Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey produced record levels of rainfall in the Houston area, causing flooding that put stress on the city’s current drainage systems. Houston’s conditions make it cost prohibitive to design storm systems for extreme events greater than the two-year event or to contain an event like Harvey. This presentation will discuss the challenges of Houston’s storm sewer system design, the current design criteria, and how systems are expected to perform under above-average rainfall events.

Registration is still open for the free, online event! The SWS Virtual Expo features live state-of-the-industry storm water and erosion control webinars offering PDH credits and the opportunity for attendees to have live interactions with virtual trade show exhibits. This free event provides an educational opportunity with flexibility and real-time interaction.
