Redi-Rock Intl. Announces Winners of 2009 Rocky Awards
Redi-Rock Intl. announced the winners of the annual Rocky Awards for 2009. The Rocky Awards are an annual honoring of the best Redi-Rock walls built in the categories of Commercial Wall of the Year, Water Application Wall of the Year, Residential Wall of the Year, Freestanding Wall of the Year and New Product of the Year. More than 130 Redi-Rock dealers across North America compete for these awards, which were presented at the Redi-Rock Annual Dealer Meeting.
Piedmont Precast of Atlanta was awarded Commercial Wall of the Year for a wall project at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta. When the Driving Club launched a $40 million renovation, it needed to demolish an existing 40-year-old rubble retaining wall and replace it with a structural yet attractive wall that would support the new pool. The 5,800-sq-ft Redi-Rock solution stands 24 ft tall at its highest point with 1 ft buried. Using Redi-Rock gave the club the look it wanted for $20 to $25 less per sq ft than other options.
Redi-Rock Structures of OKI based in Independence, Ky., was awarded Water Application Wall of the Year for a project completed at the Centre Ponte development in West Chester, Ohio. The 7,000-sq-ft wall lining the retention pond is 10.5 ft tall. The Towne Centre pond underscores the fact that storm water management need not be an eyesore. By designing this retention pond with aesthetics in mind, designers were able to capitalize on their storm water solution rather than hide it.
Puget Sound Precast of Tacoma, Wash., received Residential Wall of the Year for its project at a home on the Columbia River. When the homeowner wanted to prevent erosion below his home and also create some level space to plant fruit trees and a garden, he turned to Redi-Rock to create a three-tier, gravity wall solution that included steps. The project also included a first-of-its-kind precast archway made of Redi-Rock cap blocks.
Redi-Rock Walls of New England with offices throughout New England received the Freestanding Wall of the Year award for its work at Patriot Place, a shopping development adjacent to the New England Patriots’ stadium. The developers were considering using natural stone benches to provide seating areas throughout the development; however, when they were presented with the Redi-Rock Freestanding system, they realized they could install the project more quickly and cost effectively using Redi-Rock, with essentially the same look. In addition to the approximately 2,500 sq ft of freestanding walls, Patriot Place also used 30 to 40 Redi-Rock steps to provide access from one level to the next, and two retaining walls.
Foster Supply, Inc. based in Scott Depot, W.V., was awarded New Product of the Year for a Redi-Scapes project completed at A+ Medical Supply in Parkersburg, W.V. Redi-Scapes is a new, hand-set landscape wall system with the look of natural, stacked stone that will be released in 2010. A select group of manufacturers, including Foster Supply, test-marketed the system in 2009. To separate the front sales floor from the back inventory area, A+ Medical Supply built a 9-ft-tall Redi-Scapes wall from the floor to nearly the ceiling. The wall included space for French doors to access the inventory section of the store. A half-wall area in front of the doors acts as a sales counter.
