Hillsborough promotes rainwater collection with discounted barrels
The Hillsborough Stormwater and Environmental Services Division is encouraging residents to collect rainwater through its rain barrel program. Residents can purchase barrels at a reduced cost of $75 plus tax and pick them up at Town Hall Campus.
Rain barrels help conserve water, lower utility bills, and reduce stormwater runoff and pollution. Program Coordinator Heather Fisher noted in a news release that fall installation prepares barrels for spring use and that a slow-drip setting can prevent freezing while also filtering pollutants through soil. She emphasized that rain barrel water is nonpotable but well-suited for irrigation.
