Hanson Pipe & Precast’s Jersey Village, Texas, plant recently surpassed 1 million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury. The 65-acre facility, which produces precast concrete structural products including pipe and precast box culverts, has been in operation since 1947 and is the third Hanson plant this year to reach this significant accomplishment.
The Jersey Village manufacturing plant’s 130 employees have made safety a central part of day-to-day operations, including conducting daily safety meetings prior to each shift, monthly safety workshops and quarterly meetings with three sister facilities to share best practices and knowledge. Recent additions to the safety program include training on how to react to hazards and encouraging staff members to nurture a similar safety mentality at home.
“Safety is our No. 1 goal,” says Raul Ortiz, plant manager. “It’s always about making sure that each employee returns safely to their family each day.”
Along with the Houston plant, Hanson Building Products’ Grand Prairie, Texas, location and its Cambridge, Ont., facility also surpassed 1 million man-hours without a Lost-Time Injury earlier this year.
