Stormwater Maintenance and Consulting (SMC)—a company specializing in the design, inspection, maintenance and construction of storm water infrastructure—has added surveying and pipeline services to its Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Certification as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE).

“We have built our business over the years by providing the highest quality services to our clients,” said Jennifer Rauhofer, P.E., president of SMC. “We are looking forward to now providing an expanded variety of services as a WBE at extraordinary value.”

SMC has provided surveying services internally in conjunction with the engineering, construction and design/build services it offers. SMC understands the importance of having accurate survey data from topography to construction stakeout and as-built surveys. As existing infrastructure specialists, SMC consistently meets the challenges of engineering improvements in highly constrained infrastructure. This WBE certification will now extend these services to SMC’s clients, who consistently include SMC on their teams as a WBE partner.

Working with pipeline infrastructure is at the core of what SMC does. SMC understands the details of pipeline systems; how they are designed and constructed; problems that age and use may cause; and remediation techniques, all of which informs SMC’s understanding of the importance of accurate cleaning, inspection and assessment techniques. The pipeline cleaning and inspection service unit, which now includes wastewater systems, was created as an offshoot of SMC’s long-term vacuum truck and storm water inspection services.  Having jetted and inspected miles of storm water systems, offering these services as a certified WBE is a natural evolution.

“Not only have we expanded these proven services provided under our WBE certification, but over the course of 2015, we have launched a new general contracting division and hired two senior-level individuals to help SMC move to the next level in 2016.” said Rauhofer.
